ROCHESTER, N.Y., Dec. 14 — Saint Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., purchased seven CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems and six CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit kits to improve image quality and reduce dose at this 356-bed teaching hospital. These DR systems are expected to capture 75,000 exams a year. The radiology department conducts an additional 105,000 radiographic exams with other modalities including CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, interventional radiography, ultrasound and PET.
“We have not only achieved significant improvements in image quality, but have also adjusted our techniques to lower dose for portable and general radiology exams by 30-40 percent,” said Jeff Dossett, the hospital’s Administrative Director of Imaging Services.
He added that physician satisfaction has increased dramatically. “Clinicians now have access to high-quality images in four seconds, which can dramatically improve care for our ED, ICU and surgical patients. These wireless DR systems streamline workflow and boost staff productivity.”
Since the wireless DRX detectors interface with the hospital’s wireless network, images from any location are transmitted to the PACS in just 25 seconds. Physicians have the option to view medical images on workstations throughout the hospital or on the portable imaging system’s monitor if they are at a patient’s bedside. As a teaching hospital, widespread access to images also helps physicians educate residents and attending physicians.
Dossett added that Carestream’s Tube and Line Feature enhances care for ER and ICU patients by enabling physicians to verify placement of tubes and PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) lines.
