ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 5 — Carestream Health is one of the first healthcare IT providers to conduct pre-launch testing of the new Intel® Xeon® processor E7 product family in its industry-leading medical image management, archiving and distribution systems. These tests indicate the new high-performance processors can equip Carestream Health’s PACS and SuperPACS™ Architecture to deliver responsive access to a larger number of users per server. These new processors can also help healthcare providers reduce operating expenses by minimizing the number of servers required for data-intensive PACS applications.
“Establishing close working relationships with IT leaders like Intel allow our engineers to incorporate the latest technological advances into our healthcare IT platforms. The new Intel Xeon processor E7 product family will help address the growing demand for rapid image access by enterprise-wide systems,” said Diana L. Nole, president, Digital Medical Solutions, Carestream Health. “At the same time, these highly efficient processors can help healthcare providers contain costs of growth by reducing the number of servers required to support their user base.”
CARESTREAM PACS and SuperPACS Architecture are scalable systems designed to deliver responsive, concurrent access to medical imaging exams and reports by dozens or even hundreds of clinicians at on-site and remote locations.
While the new processor family was being developed, Carestream Health and Intel engineers conducted tests that simulated a large number of users performing routine radiologic tasks on the CARESTREAM SuperPACS Architecture. These tests indicated an increase of 1.28 more frames per second delivered by the Intel Xeon processor E7 product family as compared to Intel Xeon 7500 series processor.
“The CARESTREAM SuperPACS solution combined with the top of the line performance, availability and reliability of the new Intel Xeon processor E7 product family supports healthcare IT providers need to respond to ever increasing volumes of medical records, time critical patient needs, and cost of care,” said Bernadette Andrietti, Director of the European Region, Intel. “This is a great example of Carestream Health’s software developers working with Intel engineers and software tools to architect solutions that take advantage of the latest advances in Intel Xeon processors.”
Carestream Health’s engineers are also working with advanced task sharing methods along with new Intel software and memory subsystems to further enhance the performance of its PACS and SuperPACS Architecture.
