European Debut For Next Generation Of Wireless DRX Detector

New DRX Detectors Are Lighter, Faster, Offer New Enterprise Security Feature

GENEVA, Switz., January 31 — Carestream is expanding its leadership in digital radiography with a second generation of its innovative wireless, cassette-size CARESTREAM DRX Detector. The new DR detector is now available worldwide and weighs 3.58 kilograms (7.9 pounds). It displays a preview image in less than four seconds to enhance radiology workflow. An optional three-second exposure mode improves medical imaging of larger patients and enhances image quality for healthcare providers with lower power X-ray generators.

Other new detector features include:

  • Multiple exposures for long-length exams on any converted analogue X-ray room to expedite its use for orthopedic applications
  • Use of a hospital’s RADIUS (remote authentication dial-in user service) server to certify and authenticatethe DRX detector with the console for secure data transfer
  • Improved resistance to fluids and easier handling with a redesigned exterior
  • Support for 170 kilograms (375 pounds) of distributed weight and up to 113 kilograms (250 pounds) on a four centimeter diameter; and
  • Longer battery life for imaging of up to 190 exposures or 14 days on standby mode.

These new features are available on DRX-1 detectors or the company’s DRX-1C cesium iodide detectors. The CARESTREAM DRX-1C detector’s enhanced image quality makes it an ideal fit for orthopedic, trauma, pediatric and other specialty environments, in addition to general radiography exams. More than 3,000 DRX detectors are in clinical use worldwide.

DRX Family Enhances Asset Utilisation
The company’s portfolio of wireless DRX systems not only delivers exceptional functionality, it also offers compelling capital investment advantages. The DRX-1 detector works with the

X-ray equipment customers have today and can easily be moved to any room or mobile DRX system, a feature the company refers to as the “X-Factor.” Asset utilisation is further enhanced since healthcare providers can move the detectors when existing X-ray systems become outdated.

Carestream showed at ECR as a works in progress the CARESTREAM DRX-Revolution Mobile X-Ray System that will contain innovative features and functionality to help healthcare providers deliver high-quality images for seriously ill or injured patients. The DRX family currently includes the CARESTREAM DRX-1 System; the CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit Kits; the CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution modular DR suite; the CARESTREAM DRX-Transportable System; and the CARESTREAM DRX-Ascend System. For more information on Carestream’s medical imaging and healthcare IT solutions please visit www.carestream.com.
