ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 16 — MRI & CT Diagnostics, headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va., has purchased a RIS/PACS from Carestream Health, Inc., to give its two outpatient imaging centers increased functionality and provide radiologists with a single, integrated toolset for more productive reading.
The MRI & CT Diagnostics team created a comprehensive scorecard of seven different RIS and PACS systems before selecting Carestream Health’s solution. Functionality, workflow, flexibility and the user interface were just some of the key factors the team evaluated.
“We did an apples-to-apples comparison, and the overall workflow of the CARESTREAM RIS was best suited for our way of doing business,” said Jay Venturi, Chief Information Officer of MRI & CT Diagnostics. “The CARESTREAM PACS software came out on top because it allows radiologists to read very efficiently whether they are on-site or at a remote workstation. It also enables them to easily integrate key images into the report and to communicate with other radiologists in a seamless workflow.”
With the new RIS/PACS, patient scheduling will take place electronically. Imaging exams will be captured digitally and transmitted to PACS for reading, distribution and storage—and physicians can order imaging exams online. The final radiology reports will be available electronically to all authorized clinicians.
“Once we have installed these systems, our referring physicians will be able to go to the web interface and see the entire imaging exam if they choose to,” Venturi explained. “Carestream Health’s web interface also allows physicians who are behind hospital firewalls to easily view reports and images.”
