ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 26 — Alegent Health (Omaha, Neb.) installed 14 CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems and CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit Kits as part of an enterprise-wide conversion from computed radiography to digital radiography systems.
"Our organization wanted to standardize our general radiology imaging systems to achieve uniform image quality, minimize staff training and enable personnel sharing among our five metro area hospitals," said Ann Tuohy, Alegent Health’s Operations Director for Diagnostic Services. "In addition, the wireless DRX detectors have helped our staff improve patient care in the ER, ICU and surgical suites by delivering images in less than five seconds so physicians can make critical care decisions in real time."
She adds that Alegent Health was able to achieve significant image quality improvements while simultaneously reducing patient dose by more than 30 percent.
In just two months Alegent Health installed five CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems and retrofitted nine mobile X-ray imaging systems with wireless DRX detectors. "Retrofitting existing X-ray imaging systems is both an efficient and cost-effective way to upgrade our general radiology image quality and workflow," Tuohy reports.
To ensure maximum utilization, DR detectors are shared among multiple systems. Detectors used with portable imaging systems for evening or early morning rounds are then used with X-ray systems in the ER or general radiology rooms during the day.
"One of the benefits of Carestream’s DRX family is that detectors can be registered for use with multiple systems. This allows a healthcare provider to move these detectors among imaging systems to achieve close to 24/7 usage," Tuohy explains.
The ability to move detectors among all of Carestream’s DRX family of systems is called the X-Factor.
