GENEVA, Switz., May 30 ― Carestream Health has been awarded the contract to supply 5 DRX-Revolution mobile units to the new Royal London Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust in London, which first opened its doors to the public in December 2011. Delivery is scheduled for June 2012 when the DRX-Revolution becomes available worldwide.
The order follows an investment by the hospital in 2010 of 8 DRX-Evolution DR rooms and builds on Carestream’s ‘X-Factor’ concept, which enables DRX detectors to be shared across multiple X-ray systems. For example, a detector can be used in a mobile unit for early morning hospital rounds and then moved to a general radiology room. DRX detectors can also move from day use in general radiology rooms to mobile systems that serve the emergency department at night.
“The concept of sharing detectors was very attractive to us as we could utilise the 16 DRX-1 detectors already onsite for the DRX-Evolution rooms,” said Matt Trevail, Operational Lead Radiographer at the Royal London Hospital. “As a consequence we ordered 5 DRX-Revolutions but only 3 DRX-1 detectors, which represented a significant cost saving.”
The exceptional flexibility and image quality offered by the DRX family of digital X-ray systems makes these solutions an ideal fit for general radiography exams including orthopedic, trauma and pediatric as well as other specialty care environments.
“There were a number of features that we particularly liked on the DRX-Revolution, added Matt Trevail. “The graphic user interface is identical to the Evolution systems already operational at the hospital so minimal training will be necessary and the image processing is also the same to achieve consistency of imaging across all systems. Also, the collapsible tube column allows great visibility when being wheeled by radiographers and the tube alignment ensures that it is centred and angled correctly, even though the cassette and grid are not actually visible to the radiographer. This will help us achieve a high quality images and reduce the need for retakes.”
The DRX-Revolution system shares the same DRX-1/DRX-1C wireless detectors as the rest of Carestream’s DRX family that includes: CARESTREAM DRX-1 System, CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit Kit, CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution modular DR suite, CARESTREAM DRX-Transportable System; and CARESTREAM DRX-Ascend System.
