Is there still a need for CR Mammography in the US?

Last month Carestream Health received approval from the FDA for our CR Mammography Feature. As one of the first digital mammography systems to gain FDA approval since 2006, we’re very excited about the news!

Because CR-based mammography solutions provide excellent image quality at an affordable price, we believe that CR remains a good fit for many breast imaging providers in the United States.

Sure, it’s true that many US healthcare facilities have already adopted digital mammography, and we believe that to be a very good thing for facilities and patients. To further digital mammography adoption, the Carestream CR Mammography Feature offers some very specific benefits to a wide range of mammography providers.

If you’re still using traditional film mammography (and there’s nothing wrong with that, by the way, the image quality is still excellent) and have invested in a Carestream DRX-1 wireless detector system to replace an existing Carestream CR system in general radiology use—you can simply upgrade that CR with our new Mammography Feature. This is a highly cost-efficient way to begin digital mammography.

And there are many mammography facilities that use FFDM at major centers but still use film at outlying sites. Often these outlying sites already have a Carestream CR for general radiology use. Again, upgrading to digital mammography is now fast, easy and cost-effective.

Many imaging centers around the country use CARESTREAM CRs and, again, upgrading with our Mammography Feature and screens can be easy and effective for these locations.

Well over 3,000 mammography facilities around the world use the Carestream CR Mammography Feature. At last, U.S. facilities can join them!
